County employees to receive Lean Six Sigma training

Filed Under:
Baldwin County, Alabama, is set to adopt a lean government initiative that should be underway by the end of the month, the Press-Register reports.

A total of 30 county employees will be participating in Lean Six Sigma training, which will help them identify and eliminate waste and inefficiency within coastal government processes in the wake of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill of 2010.

"If we can get some perspective on how we can improve our process, I'm all for that," said Baldwin County commissioner Tucker Dorsey, as quoted by the news source.

At a recent meeting, representatives from the Auburn Technical Assistance Center and the Alabama Productivity Center told commissioners that they wanted to provide their services to help facilitate recovery efforts. In addition to contacting Baldwin County, they also extended the offer to the cities of Foley, Orange Beach and Gulf Shores.

Although the county has yet to sign off on joining the initiative, municipal government employees have already begun training from Lean Six Sigma consulting experts, according to the media outlet.

The school district of Huntsville, Alabama, is also using process improvement to implement efficiency, according to WAFF-TV. Following an August review, the district is currently putting a more streamlined approach in place.
