Keeping up with virtualized IT infrastructure innovations

Companies are struggling to keep pace with the performance management requirements of virtualized IT infrastructures, according to eG Innovations' latest annual study of more than 150 IT operations professionals in North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific.
Technologies such as virtualization and cloud computing are favored by process improvement advocates and Lean Six Sigma experts because they help companies streamline operations and decrease costs. However, management systems are lagging behind, preventing businesses from reaping the full benefits of automation.
"Process improvement and service definition are essential to long-term success," said John Worthington, director of consulting for IT service management company Third Sky. "Organizations must find a way to do both process and service-oriented improvements in order to succeed in the new world."
A recent Deloitte survey found that while 84 percent of CFOs approved IT projects involving spending on productivity suites, just 44 percent had given the go-ahead for work programs that focus on process improvement.
"Not enough ... companies take ongoing continuous improvement of processes seriously," Deloitte's Donal Graham told iTnews.
