Process improvement from an HR focus
Filed Under:
Focusing human resources (HR) on process improvement can benefit companies in several ways, process innovation expert Brad Power writes for the Harvard Business Review.
In order to effectively streamline HR operations, it's important to bring people in who have extensive operational improvement experience.
"HR professionals need credibility to challenge line managers on whether they are improving the attitudes and skills of their people at the same time they're redesigning their job," Power notes.
Automating benefits administration and other HR tasks can help a company reduce waste, free up HR workers' time and ultimately realize cost savings. For example, the HR function of technology corporation IBM was able to cut down the number of software applications it used from 8,000 to fewer than 1,000.
In a separate article published by the news source last month, Power explained that "HR can propel or inhibit process improvement because it has an outsized influence on people."
Bringing in a Lean Six Sigma consultant to partner with an HR chief on improvement initiatives can help companies widen their potential areas of savings.
