Retirement Community Adds Memory Care Facility for Alzheimer’s Patients

According to an article from the San Francisco Chronicle, The Terraces retirement community in Fresno, CA announced that the facility is opening a new memory support residence for patients with Alzheimer’s and dementia. The memory care unit is part of a $120 million redevelopment project that is proactively addressing the rising population of Alzheimer’s patients.

The article reported that Fresno has the only continuing care retirement community in the area that offers a patient-centered memory care facility. The new residence, The Grove, will offer 24 private rooms for Alzheimer’s patients, and doctors will build personal relationships with patients in an effort to develop an individual care plan. At the memory care residence, patients will receive treatment in the form of sensory-stimulating and reminiscing activities along with exercise, wellness, music, and art.

Jessica Lopez, executive director of The Terraces, said “We’re planning for the future with the new construction of The Grove, which gives us the opportunity to continue providing innovative memory care services and to address the need for these services right here in Fresno.” The new memory care residence is intended to expand the availability of care for Alzheimer’s patients, who the Alzheimer’s Association expects to double in California by 2020.

According to the article, The Terrace has been offering quality elderly care for the past 45 years through residential living, on-site assisted living, memory support, and skilled nursing. The Grove is the first completion of the redevelopment project at The Terrace and will be followed by nursing suites and office spaces, a new underground parking garage, a commons building, and residential living apartments to continually improve the experience for both patients and their families.
