Texas facility enjoys process improvement savings

A Texas healthcare facility was able to save more than $6.5 million by aligning incentives to reduce costs while simultaneously engaging in healthcare process improvement that increased the quality and safety of its services.
In March 2010, Methodist Health System of Dallas partnered with the Premier healthcare alliance on an 18-month partnership that aimed to lower supply chain expenses. The target was a raw improvement of $5 million across Methodist's three participating campuses, with the additional goal of maintaining and improving clinical quality levels.
"Our bottom line has improved and one of the reasons is because supply costs are down," said Methodist COO and executive vice president Pam Stoyanoff. She called the partnership "terrific" and said it was a risk that paid off.
"With Methodist, achievements were made through the movement of a supply metric, not just a dollar reduction of supply costs," noted Wes Champion, senior vice president of Premier Performance Partners.
